RAILWAY WORKSHOPS
REORGANISATION SCHEME. Mr Sullivan (Avon) recently aßked the Minister for Railways whether thero is any truth in the rumour now being circulated among the employees of the Addington workshops to the effect that the moulders’ shop, fitting-shop, and other departments are to be transferred to Hillside, involving also the transfer of the homes of a large number of employees from Christchurch > The Hon. Mr Coates (Minister for Railways) replied yesterday that the reorganisation of the railway workshops on a modern commercial basis is in hand, and in connection with this it will later on become necessary to transfer a certain number of men from Addington to Hillside, Hut this will be compensated for by the removal of nn approximately equal number from Hillside to Addington. These transfers, which will be necessary in order to properly adjust the staff to the requirements of the respective workshops, will, of conrse, to kept down to a minimum.
