MOTOR FEES

HUTT ROAD FIGURES PROSPECTS OF BIG INCREASE. The return of fees collected for motor vehicles licensed in the Hutt road district indicate that before the current year is completed a substantial ' increase over last year’s figures will be recorded. During the period from April Ist 1o Tuesday, July 21st, £8429 has been collected: At this date last year £6280 had been paid in, this representing a very large proportion of the total collections for the vear, which amounted to £8631. The prospects therefore are that, in view of the large amount paid in to date and the corresponding figures for last year, the contributing bodies to the Hutt road will have reason to he pleased at the result. It is estimated that this year’s collections with new registrations and those few who have not already paid existing license fees, will amount to aver £9OOO. It is pointed out by the- traffic department that now that the heavy traffic fees were coming in the Hutt road fund will be swelled, because when a motor owner paid bis Hutt road fee this was deducted from his heavy traffic fee, whereae if the heavy traffic vehiclo had not yet been paid for this amount would include his Hutt road contribution.
