An explosion occurred. in the Rothbury colliery, near Cessnock, early thia morning. There were only two men in the mine at the time—Booth Symington, a pumper, and William Crisp, a deputy. Symington was rescued in an unconscious state, hut an exhaustive search failed to reveal a trace of Crisp. The explosion was so severe that it blew out one of the stoppings, and demolished 60 feet of a brick wall. A gang of men searched all the morning for the entombed deputy, hut th« air was so had that they were comj>elled to leave the mine, which will be sealed. There is little hope now of finding Crisp alive. So far there are no signs of a fire. The explosion occurred 800 yards from the mouth of the tunnel.
