Sir Joseph Ward is at present at Ilkvercargill. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes is visiting Dunedin. Mr H. E. P. Cornish, of Wellington, Is at present staying in Dunedin. Mr H. H. Le Pine, of Wellington, has been visiting Christchurch. Mr J. T. Martin, of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Dunedin, is in Wellington. Mr F. B. Adams, Crown Prosecutor at Dunedin, has been visiting Wellington. Dr D. D. Brown, who has been elected to a junior fellowship under the Beit Memorial, was assistant to the professor of anatomy at Otago University last year. The exhibition authorities at Dunedin have secured the services of Dr W. E. Thomas (Mus. Doc., Oxon.) as musical adjudicator for the exhibition competitions festival. Dr Thomas is a scholarly nuisiciah, and possesses all the essential qualifications as adjudicator for such an important event, and his appointment should give universal satisfaction.

The funeral of the Tate Mr J. J. K. Gilmour. of Dannevirke, brother of Mr VV. H. K. Gilmour. of Palmerston North, took place at Dannevirke. Deceased. who was the second son of Mrs E. K. Gilmour, of Napier, and the late Mr A. Gilmour. former county engineer at Waipawa, has been prominently identified with the progress of Dannevirke and the Southern Hawke’s Bay district for the past 30 years, and had been connected with many public movements. The pall-bearers at the funeral were all members of the Masonic fraternity. Prior to the commencement of business in the Magistrate’s Court, at Masterton, on behalf of the legal profession Mr H. O. Robinson asked Sergeant Sweeney, who is leaving for Hamilton, to acoept a silver cigarette case. Mr S. L. Free, S.M.. said they all regretted that Sergeant Sweeney was leaving them, but they were pleased to kno-v that he was receiving well-deserved promotion, which would, no doubt, be a stepping-stone to even a higher position. The ideals of a good police officer had been ‘followed out by Sergeant Sweeney in Masterton. The high esteem in which the late Dr C. F. G. Webster was held was shown by the large and representative attendance of prominent citizens at his funeral service at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathe-dral. Amongst those present were the Hon. J. G. Coates (Prime Minister!. Mr Justice Alpers, and practically rll the members of the medical profession in Wellington. Master D. Webster (son! and Mr R. Webster, of Wanganui (brother) were the chief mourners, and the pall-hearers were Messrs M. C. Barnett. O. R. Bendall. T. Shailer Weston, Drs R. Stout. D. Stout. G. W. Hartv, and D. E. Fenwick'. The interment, which was private, took place at Karori Cemetery. The Ven. Archdeacon Johnson oondneted the service at the ProCathedral and at the graveside.
