WATERSIDERS’ AWARD
INTERPRETATION ASKED PAYMENT OF OIL RATES. With regard to a Wellington waterside dispute—as to whether the men working for the Wellington Harbour Board, receiving and trucking general, cargo from a Hatch in which inflammable oils are stored but not being worked, or from a hatch in which one gang is discharging inflammably oils, are entitled to the oil rate of pay under the watersiders’ award and under decision 33 of the National Disputes’ Committee—an application was made to the Arbitration Court yesterday for an interpretation of the award. The dispute came before both the local committee at Wellington and the the National Disputes Committee reneither could agree on the matter, and the National Disputes’ Committee referred it to the court for decision. Decision was reserved. COAL GRAB The court also reserved its decision regarding the interpretation of the award with regard to a dispute which arose at Lyttelton recently, as to whether the waterside workers who discharged coal by means of the transporter grab from the s.s.Waikawa were entitled to the extra rate for trimming to the transport grab, during the whole time they were employed, even when working in a different hold from that in which the grab was in action.
