WELLINGTON’S CARNIVAL

WELCOMING THE AMERICAN FLEET. The coming carnival period and welcome to the American Fleet, ot which the Wellington Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition arc the principal features, is now taking definite shape, and the exhibition will give the visitors a good idea of the extent of the primary. and secondary industries of the Dominion, while arrangements are also being made to provide plenty of amusement for our confreres from overseas. So far as the winter show itself is concerned, nearly the whole space in the huge new Pipitea shed has now been allotted, and the lay out of the building should enable the large crowds which are sure to visit it from all parts of the North Island to view the exhibits in comfort. Although it is yet early, entries are coming m well for the competitive classes which close on July 11th. Quite a number of entries have been received from exhibitors at the National Dairy Show now being held at Palmerston North, including several makes of mo-tor-cars and some of the best exhibits of field roots. The New Zealand Art Association has promised a very fine collection of pictures. During-the first two days of the show the \. ellington Kennel Club will hold its annual exhibition in an adjoining shed, which vvill also house the show of the Wellington Poultry Association for the first three days, and the live Btock section will also occupy the same building from August 6th to 14th. No extra charge will he made for these one ticket admitting to all parts of the show. Tliat there is bound to be plenty of amusement, is evident from the fact that great difficulty is being found in finding accommodation for the number of side-shows which have already applied for space. During the last week of the show the Wellington Racing Club will hold a special meeting at Trentham, having obtained a permit for the extra day, and the hunters’ contests and sheep dog trials will probably take place in the same week. Those who wish to secure tickets for the art union, the prises for which are alluvial gold, are reminded that the sale of tickets will close shortly.
