ARBITRATION COURT
„ BUTCHERS’ AWARD. GISBORNE RATES SOUGHT FOR WELLINGTON. In the Arbitration o>urt yesterday,, before His Honour Mr Justice Frazer, Mr W. Scott (employers), and Mr Hiram Hunter (workers): Mr A. W. Croskery appeared to support the application by the Wellington Butchers’ Union for a new award to take the place of the one phich expired in December, 1923. An agreement had been reached on all points with the exception ’of hours, wages, and preference, and one or two minor matters. They had since agreed to accept the hours in the Wanganui award, viz., 48 hours. As regarded Wages the rates paid under the Gisborne award were asked for, as these were also in force in Auckland. In anv case the increase was small. A Saturday half-holiday was asked for. Mr W. W. Grenfell briefly addressed the court on behalf of the employers. Regarding the half-holiday the employers sboutd have the right to select their half-holiday, and the men should work on the Saturday if required. The awards of the court will be issned in due course.
