MILK BELOW STANDARD
NOMINAL FINE INFLICTED. The case of Lilian Mary Monk for selling milk below standard was heard yesterday at the Magistrate’s Court under Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M. It was stated that the manager of the farm had been ill, ahd Mrs Monk herself had been away for a short time. The harvesting had been in full swing, and through the general ran of the farm being upset the milking was let; until a late hour, and as a result contrary to the usual practice, the “strippings” were not evenly distributed through the milk. Counsel for accused contended that this was undoubtedly the cause of the poor state of the milk, as it was a recognised fact that the strippings, after the machines arc taken off, give a gfeat percentage of butter-fat. Mr* Monk, it was stated, had a very fine record, and it was the first complaint against her. A fine of £1 with costs was imposed
