Serious threats are being made aifiong the maritime unions in Sydney of tactics which will be put into force to prevent the sale of the Australian Commonwealth Line steamers. Mr Jacob/ Johansen (assistant-secre-tary of the Sydney branch of the Federated Seamen’s Union) stated that, according to rumours there was a movement on foot whereby if an attempt were made to sell the ships the whole lot of them would be declared “black.” Thus it woujd be impossible for any new owners to trade with them, in the future on the Australian coast.
