AFTER REFRESHERS

SUGGESTIONS TO TEACHERS. PREPARATORY WORK. During the present week the teachers throughout the Wellington education district have assembled at four centres for a refresher course of Btudy in the subjects of their profession. There has been a splendid response to the invitation of the board the numbers enrolled being at Wellington 419, Masterton 100, Levin 27. and Blenheim 60. The course ends to-day in all the centres except Blenheim.' With a view to occupying profitably the intervening clays before Merch 9th the earliest date on which the health authorities maypermit the opening of the schools, the Education Board yesterday issued tlio following circular notice to all head teachers for announcement at the various centres:—

“To all head teachers. Cabinet han decided that no school shall reopen before March 9th. The Education Board therefore requests that during the week following the refresher course, which concludes on the 27th, the following duties he undertaken: —Head teachers of schools of grade A and upwards will assemble their staffs next week and spend a reasonable time in deckling on the organisation and in preparation of schemes, apparatus, and material for the work of the year. ’/In the case of sale charge schools, it is suggested either that the teachers return to their schools for preparation as above or that they attach themselves to the staff of a larger school for combined studv. All teachers who select tho second option are required to report the fact to the board. ‘•Xu consideration of the youth of 1 many of the pupil-teachers and probationers it is advisable to release them from actual attendance at school after the first day. On that, dav their programme of work may he discussed and determined. For the remainder of the wee!: they mov he assigned a reasonable amount of reading in the subjects of study.”
