"PARAMOUNT”
A POPULAR GENERAL MANAGER. On the eve of hie departure to assume the general managership of Paramount's destinies in Sydney, New South Wales, Mr A. Macdonald, general manager of Paramount pictures, Wellington, was on Thursday, the 26th instant, entertained at a luncheon at the Grand Hotel by his friends and colleagues in the picture industry in New Zealand. Mr E. J. Righton, managing direotor of the New Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd. was in the chair, and spoke in glowing terms of Mr Macdonald's qualities as an exchange manager and wished him, on behalf of those present, the very best of luck in his new position. Mr C. F. Eskell, general manager Of Universal Films, A’sia, Ltd.; and president of the Film Etsehange Association, also spoke about Mr Macdonald's qualities as an exchange manager, and Mr O. N. Gillespie, general manager of Premier National Pictures, in presenting Mr Macdonald with a suitable gift, wished that he would attain the same position among exhibitors and exchange men in Sydney as he held in Wellington. The following exchange men and exhibitors were present and spoke feelingly regarding Mr Macdonald’s many fine qualities:—L. Quinn (United Artists), W. Scott (N.Z.P.S.), A. Davis (Exhibitors’ Alliance), G. Dagnall (Fox), E. Fuller (Selznick), W. Duff (Paramount), T. Ferguson (Paramount), W. Hughes and T. Valois (N.Z.P.S.), R. Davison (First National), F. W. Millar (N.Z. Theatre Magazine), W. Shortt (Shortt’s Theatre), S. Pitt (Queen’s Theatre), Good (King’s Theatre), T. Craigie (Strand Theatre), N. Beck (Island Bay), J. Hunter (Harlinborough), W. Smith and J. Slater (Petone), and R. M. Stewart (Film Exchanges Association). -The opportunity was taken of extending a most hearty welcome to Mr F. Gawler, Mr Macdonald’s successor. Mr Gawler, who recently arrived in this country from Australia, comes with the goodwill of the Australasian exhibitors, and wo are (fuite sure that he will maintain his fine reputation in this country.
