SHIPPING STATISTICS

BIG INCREASED TONNAGE. RETURNS OF WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD. In the summary of statistics for the year ended September 39th, submitted to the Wellington Harbour Board last night, it is shown that the total tonnage inwards, ouwards, and transhipped was 1.560.206. which was 244,614 tons higher than for the preceding year, an increase of 18.5 per cent. Shipments of butter, aheese and frozen meat which went to British and foreign porta only were 96,892 tons, an Tm crease of 3162 tons, or 3.3 per cent., on the previous year. Wool shipments were 173.815 bales, whioh showed an increase of 3744 bales, and hemp shipments had increased by 12.4 per cent. The amount of coal imported was 468,268 tons, only 1560 tons higher than last year. Timber inwards totalled 21,607,600 super feet, an increase of 12,833,262 super feet oyer the preceding year, while the outgoing timber totalled 1,058,664 super feet against 531,999 super feet for the preceding year, increases respectively of 68.3 per cent, and 98,9 per cent.
