SALAMAN CONVICTION

APPLICATION FOR APPEAL. MAGISTRATE REFUSES SUGGESTION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 17. In the Police Court today, Mr Finlay, solicitor, asked that the sentence on Abraham Salaman should be increased to a month and a day, to give Salaman right of appeal on a question of faofc. Mr Poynton, S.M., deolined, saying that the man had been swindling the public. Mr Finlay then said he would exercise his right of appealing on a question of law. Security for this appeal was fined at £65 15s. The effect is that the warrant of committal to prison will be suspended till the New Year.
