TENDER OF £183,654 HANSFORD AND MILLS, VeLLINGTON, SUCCESSFUL. HYDRO-ELECTRIC TENDER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 8. Tenders for the Auckland war memoiriaH are: The; Hansford and Mills Construction Co., Wellington and Auckland, £183,654: Fletcher’s Construction 00., Auckland, £186,940; P Graham and Sons, Christchurch. £234,800. The tenders were referred to a sub-committee, with power to act. The Auckland War Memorial and Museum will be, when completed, the finest architectural building in the country, and it null be remembered that the design was the result of n competition held some two years ago, the winners being Messrs Grierson Aimer and Draffin, architects, of Auckland. The building will comprise a Museum, Art Gallery and Library. There are also several memorial balls which are a special feature of the design. In them will he exhibited war trophies, maps, etc. Sculpture commemorative of New Zealand exploits in the Great War will he prominent in tile interior decoration. The main construction will ho of re inforced concrete and structural steel faced with stone. The facade is noteworthy for its high Corinthian columns of Hawkesbuxy stone, from New South Wales. . The outside facing of tnc building is of the same material, while the base will be of Haroourt granite from Melbourne, Victoria. The architects are Messrs Grierson, Aimer and Draffin.

Amongst the buildings erected in Wellington by Messrs Hansfo-rd and Mills are: Parliament Buildings State Fire Insurance Office, the Cunard Building, Bryant and May’s Match Factory, and Stewart’s and Lloyd’s building. This firm, in conjunction with the Foundation 00., Ltd., of London, the National and Electrical c-n----gineering Co., Ltd., and Boving and Co., Ltd., have submitted tenders to the Government for the carrying out of the complete contracts of tho Arapuni hydro-electric work. The work will be commenced immediately, the contract time being three years. The base of the building will be of Coromandel granite, and the superstructure Hawkeslmry sandstone.
