A NARROW SHAVE

ENGINEER’S EXPERIENCES. TIMBER LOAD STRIKES OAR. Mr O. M. Morice, city waterworks and drainage engineer, had a narrow escape when driving up the Ngahauranga gorge recently. Passing a motor-lorry at a sharp bend, Mr Morice, on the very edge of the road, thought himßelf clear, when the end of the big load of timber carried by the lorry swxSig round and struck his car. The swing narroViv missed the engineer’s head and cinshed against a small lamp. .Had Mr Morice held his arm in the customary position, the least that he could have expected would have been to have it fractured. Had the load struck his mptor fairly, car and man would have befw precipitated into the creek below.

As it was, the car came off surprisingly lightly, and the engineer was unhurt.
