The west wall of xlie “Spectator” building, in Cflouoetster street, oojlapsed with a iroar into an adjoining empty section. The interior of the building was left bare, showing the passage on the ground floor and the work-room above. One man had a narrow escape from serious injury and was knockeu down by flying bricks. The Hon. G W. Russell was In an upper room when the fall occurred, but the floor did not collapse. The roof is sagging badly, and tho condition of the building appears to be precarious. Hie building is tne property of the trustees of the estate of H. L. Bovvksr, and is leased by G. W. Russell, Ltd. The cause of the collapse is thought to be the digging of a 4ft trenob which was 3 feet lower than the wall foundation. The empty section is being prepared for a four-story building for the Builders’ Association.
