AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS, Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 28. The Auckland provincial tennis championships were continued to-day in fine weather. There was a fair attendance. E. L. Bartleet and E. W. Griffiths met’ in the semi-final of the men’s singles, hut the match was started late and the light failed before the contest concluded, the score being two sets all. Bartleet won the first and third sets, 6—4, B—6, and Griffiths won the second and fourth. 7—5, 6—4. The results of. the other semifinals ao far played are: — Men’s doubles: E. L. Bartleet and H. L. Robson beat Drs. Laurenson and Gower, 3—6, B—6,8 —6, 6—2, 6—4. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs Hogben and Miss B. M. Knight beat Miss KerrTaylor and Mrs Scott Watson, o—6, Macfarlane beat Miss N. MacCormiok and Mrs Marshall, 7—5, 7 —9, 10 —8. In the third round of the ladiee’ singles, Mrs Hogben beat Mrs Soott Watson, 7-—9, 6—3, 6—l. The winner showed good form. A feature of the firpt day’s play (Saturday) was the promising form of several younger players.
