FIRE IN SYDNEY
HARDWARE STORE BURNT. HEAVY DAAIAGE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright •SYDNEY, October 25. Fire broke out near midnight in the premises of John Danka, hardware merchants, in Pitt street, Sydney, two streets from the Central Railway. Tlie damage is estimated at over £GO,OOO. Two firemen were injured, one of them, J. Houston, by falling through a covered skylight from the fourth floor to tho bottom floor.
By 1 o’clock the flames had eaten their way from tho top floor through the building, and the fire-fighters were compelled to direct all their energies to preventing neighbouring buildings in the congested block from catching fire.
