FURTHER- ACTION URGED.

The executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union has Messrs Duxfield, Harding, and Ross a committee to go into the question of recommending economies which could be adopted by the State. At yesterday’s meeting of the executive the following official Teply to a union communication on the subjeot was read: —“The steps taken by the Government to effect economies and improved efficiency in the Public Service wero instituted in 1921 by the appointment of a special and expert committee of permanent heads. The valuable report received by the Government from this committee’s deliberations enabled the Government to set about a defined policy of saving and economy. In addition to the results referred to, the Government has effected reforms in the different departments making for increased efficiency, and i& continuing where possible its policy of economy.”
