AUSTRIAN ELECTION

GOVERNMENT SAFE ECONOMIC RECONSTRUCTION MULL BE CONTINUED. COMMUNISM WEAK. By Tolegranh.—Press Assn.—Copyright Australian, and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 23, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, October -o. Tho Exchange Agency’s correspondent in Vienna says the new Aust-raan Assembly is estimated to consist of 82 Christian Socialists, 16 German Nationalists, and 67 Socialists. Thus Dr. Seipel, the present Chancellor, will have a safe -working majority of 98 over 67. The “Morning Post” says Dr. Seipel’s Christian Socialist Party continues a very strong political factor, and a majority strong enough to secure stability for its present policy of economic reconstruction. The Democratic Party, which Count Ozernin represented, has been annihilated. The Communist list is also so small that it is evident Bolshevism- has no real role in Austria.

The first Parliament of the Republic of Austria wae elected' three years ago, and contained 82 Christian Socialists, 66 Social Democrats, 20 Nationalists, six Peasants, and one Worker. In October of last year the League of Nations worked out a scheme Tor the restoration of the Austrian finances within two years, the Governments of Great Britain, France, Italy, and Czecho-Slovakia agreeing to guarantee four-fifths of -a loan of £25,000,000. in order to fill the deficit in the budget during the two years.
