OBITUARY
DUKE OF SOMERSET.
Renter’s Telegram. LONDON, October 23. The Duke of Somerset is dead.
The Duke of Somerset (Algernon St. Maur) was the loth holder of the title, which was created in 1547. He was also Baron Seymour, the barony having originated in the same year. The late duke, who was 77 year old, owned estates totalling about 25,400 acres. His successor is his cousin, BrigadierGeneral Sir Edward Hamilton Seymour, who is 63 years of age, and who retired from the military service in 1920. His last appointment was Inspector of the Army Ordnance Services.
MR PHILIP COSGRAVE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, October 22. Mr Philip Cosgrave, who was a brother of the President of the Free State, and a member of the Dail, and governor of the Mountjoy prison, died suddenly after a chill.
