CONSERVATIVE PARTY
MOMENTOUS CONFERENCE,
TARIFF ISSUE PROMINENT. Australian and' N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 23, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, October 23. The “Daily Telegraph” Parliamentary correspondent says tho Conservative Party’s conference at Plymouth is expected to prove a definite landmark in tho history of the party. There will be a thorough examination of the policy of preference, beyond the proposals made by Sir Philip Lloyd Greame at the Conference. Mr Baldwin’s friends emphasise that he is bound firmly by Mr Bonar Law’s pledge, but there are grounds for believing he will adumbrate a broad policy, on which the judgment of the electors will be sought at some future date. The “Morning Pbst” hints that there are some members of the Cabinet who believe the pledge to have been unwise. It is certain, however, that Mr Baldwin’s outline of future policy will be definite and unmistakable, and one for which Conservatives may work with enthusiasm and confidence.
