DEBATING CONTEST

W.E.A.W. IN SHIELD. The final debate for the Parliamentary debating shieDd took place at the YVM.C.A. Assembly Hall last night, before a good audience. The Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright) presided. Tho subject of the debate was: “Whether Education in New Zealand Was Too Easy of Attainment.” The two teams who wore left to fight out the final represented the Wellington Educational Association and the University Debating Society. The speakers for the affirmative were Mrs G. Devanny, Mr Browne, and Mr Dyer; for tho negative, Mr S. E. Bnume, Air G. Brown, and Mr J. B. Yaldwyn. At the conclusion of the contest, the. Judges (Messrs Humphreys and Black) gave their verdict in favour of the affirmative side by 3 points. A vote of thanks was accorded the Mayor for presiding.
