APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT BISHOP. Per Press Asaociation, AUCKLAND, October 23. Tbe Diocesan S'ynod decided to empower the standing committee to take steps towards tho appointment of an assistant-bishop on the ground of the great increase of population in the diocese. This was the subject, of the atatoment in tho bishop’s charge on Friday.
