REFORMING CRIMINALS
AIR TREADWELL’S STATEMENTS. The statement recently made by Air A. L. Treadwell, of AVellington, that it was almost impossible to reform a criminal unless he was under* 23 years of age, was the subject of 6ome remarks by the Rev. L. G. Budd at the annual meeting of the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society at Auckland. Air Budd &aid a large proportion of the men dealt with by the society were between the ages of 25 and 50, and he had never had cause to be discouraged with the results. A •prison official with whom lie was acquainted had found employment for about 75 discharged prisoners last year, and although many of these men might be called criminals, the majority were giving every satisfaction to their employers, and there was no reason to expect they would give further trouble.
