FLOGGING OF NATIVES
IN NEW GUINEA TERRITORY. ALLEGATIONS REFUTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received October 16, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 16. Dr Earle Page has received the report of Mr A. S. Canning, who was appointed by the Commonwealth Government to inquire into the allegations of the flogging and ill-treatment of natives in the mandated territory of New Guinea. It is stated ftiat the report, which is based on evidence supplied by the whole of the missionaries in the group—Wesleyan, Roman Catholic, and Lutheran—and also the Government officials and others, entirely and conclusively refuted the allegations made. The report will he dealt with by Senator Pearce on Thursday.
