While Mrs Simpson ivaa conversing with several neighbours at her house at Manly, a mail, whom she is stated to have known previously, entered and commenced waving Ins arms. Mrs Simpson and the neighbours ran into the yard, followed by the man, who pulled a razor from his pocket, and rushed at Mrs Simpson, and slashed her throat, arm, and back. Her screams attracted assistance, but the assailant jumped the fence and escaped to the bush.
Mrs Simpson was sent to hospital, and is in a critical condition.
A large body of police is scouring the scrub in the vicinity.
