MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT
HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED. Par Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 10. The sum that Harold Lowry Penny, accountant, should be awarded on account of injuries inflicted on him by Edward Skevington’s car in an accident on Papanui road was considered 1 by Mr Justice Sim and a jury of twelve at the Supreme Court to-day. Plaintiff claimed he was entitled to £2131 19s 4d. Defendant, who admitted liability, paid £750 into court, and pleaded that it was sufficient for satisfactory for plaintiff. Th© jury returned a verdict for £1399 3s 4d, being £624 3s special damages and £675 general damages. Imprisonment for forty-eight hours | without the option of a fine was the sentence imposed on William Young to-day to ensure prompter payment, in future, on a maintenance order.
