LOWER HUTT BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL. GENERAL BUSINESS DISCUSSED. The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was Jield last night, tho following members being pro sent: —The Mayor (Mr W. T. Strand), Councillors J. Mitchell, A. J. Hobbs, D. A. Ewen, H. G. Teagle, G. Meldrum, A. F. Roberts, A. Mcßain, J2. W. Hunt, and L. T. Watkins. The Wellington City Council wrote stating that the estimated cost of additions to buildings, etc., had been increased from <£12,312 to <£19,445, and the amount would either mean a loan or increase on * next year’s levy. The borough's proportion of the difference would be about Jil4*s. Amount to be paid out of next year's rates. —Carried on tho voices. The Petone and Hutt Gas Board wrote enclosing copy of letters to and from the Petone Borough Council stating that the board is prepared to raise a loan to redeem the debentures, provided the two , councils will agTee to pay all costs of raising such a loan; such costs would bo tantamount to disposing of debentures at a discount.—lt was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the finance committee, with power to act. The Hutt Park Committee wrote explaining tho position ns regards fees for use of the ground paid to the caretaker. —The letter was received. B. P. Bunny wrote enclosing subdi visional plan of C'asey and Heyes estate.— Received.

I Sladden and Parritt wrote enclosing 'lend transfer plan of land transferred from Riddiford to Shaw ) Waterloo road). —The council decided to approve of the plan. Tho Hutt District High School were granted permission for a practice wicket for the school teams. Martin and) Dyett and Izard and Weston wrote asking approval of right-of-way through the section owned by tho Woiopehu Company to Lowe’s garage.— It was decided that the council should view tho right-of-way. The Waimarei Croquet Club wrote asking if there would be provision made for croquet on the Casey and Heyes estate for 1023-24 season, and offering to erect a pavilion if the same can be reserved for tho club's use.

Councillor Teagle said he was given to understand, as a member of the estates committee, that the grounds could not be used for croquet.. He thought that tho Croquet Club should look further afield. Councillor Hobbs ssid he was of the same opinion., Hr* moved: “'That tho counci.l write saying that thev bad not yet decided to what use the ground was to be put."—Carried.
