NAVAL CLUBS' RACE
WIN FOR'WELLINGTON. The annual rowing race for the White Horse Cup between the Wellington Navals Boating Society and the Petone Navals took place at Petone in splendid weather before a large crowd of spectators. Tho> two crews assembled at the mouth of the Hutt river and from a •good start the two competitors kept almost abreast till nearing home, when the city crew, with a strenuous effort, forged a little ahead, gaining a narrow victory by three-quarters of a length. The Petone Navals had held the White Horse Cup for eight years, but this season Wellington were slightly superior to their opponents. The city crew comprised members of the 15tli Battery. New Zealnnd Artillery, under tho coxswain of Captain. J. Abel. Tho cup was presented by Mr E. T. Taylor, senr., who congratulated tho AVellington Navals for being the successful crow of the day. Tho Mothos Cup and the Rabc Memorial Flag are to take place next Snlnrchiy in Wellington, the former between the two viva! batteries of the city and the latter between the members of the W.N.B.S.
