OTAKI’S WATER SUPPLY
NO WATER FOR OUTSIDERS. At a meeting of tho Ot-aki Borough Council, the question of supplying water to people outside the borough was discussed, Councillor Cockrell considering there was ample water to give a supply, also that by doing so it would be revenue-producing. Councillor Kilsby said there was plenty of water in the stream, but the trouble was to get it in the tank. He thought residents of the borough should have first consideration. Councillor Taylor said the people standing the brunt of the loan should get tho water first. Councillor Rikihana agreed. Councillor O’Rourke said the engineer guaranteed that there would be plenty of water, and they should go on his estimate. Councillor Rikihana said he bad seen the stream drv near the ro:ul, which caused Councillor Cockrell to remark that tho Ohnu stream also hoik diy. yet the Levin water supply was always reliable. It was decided not to grant water to outsider*.
