PLEASING THE AMATEURS. MAY RETURN IN NOVEMBER. After leaving Wellington a few days ago, H W. Stevonson, the ex-world's billiard champion, paid a visit to Wanganui Club, where he had a great reception from the local some of whom are excellent players. At Napier Glut, where the cloth was somewhat worn and slack, he again gave half the game, his opponent being Mr Sandtman, who only added 64, Stevenson reaching his points with breaks of 62, 80, 80, 108, 76, '56. 85, 52, 54 and 43. His third game was at Manawatu Club, where ho gave 3W in 800 to Mr Crossan, tho professional, and won by--136 Stevenson’s breaks were 148 and 139, and Crussan’s best was 49, tho final score being 800-664 These matches have involved incessant travelling, so that in such oorcumstances the ox-champion has been giving wonderful displays. Ho playeri at Ohakuno last night, and will be at South Auckland this evening, and to-morrow night plays at the Amateur Sports Club, Auckland. He is also visiting the Premier and Northern Clubs while in Auckland, and possibly the Commercial Travellers’ Club, travels to Whangarei for the beginning of next week and leaves for Sydney from Auckland on September Ist. Quite a number of engagements have had to be cancelled' owing to the short time at Stevenson’s, disposal, as he is due in Sydney early in September for a big match, hut he purposes revisiting the Dominion eaflv in November prior to his return Home.
