A GOLD SNAP

Sydney experienced a cold snap during the last twenty-four hours, the temperature falling to 41 degrees. Snow is reported throughout the eounfry. (Received July 3, 12.15 a.m.) SYDNEY July 2. Soaking rain fell all day, accompanied by bitter cold. MELBOURNE, July 1. The cold weather penetrated the walls of the House of Representatives, and provoked protests from the members. Mr Hughes, in an emphatic protest to the Speaker, said the chamher was unfit for human occupation. It was badly ventilated, and altogether unsatisfactory. The- Speaker confessed that he was aware of the disabilities, and had endeavoured to improve matters by means of electric radiators; but owing to the thickness of the walls preventing the laying of independent wires, he had heen compelled to have the radiators from the lighting service.
