CAMERON v. RAILWAY. VALUE OF SECTIONS FIXED. The case of the compensation, claim made by Alexander and John Cameron against the Railway Department (for £2(587) in respect of an area of a little over three acres of land at Kaiwarra, taken over by the department for the purpose of erecting houses for railway servants, was decided on Saturday. The case had occupied the attention of the Supreme Court, before Hie Honour Mr Justice Reed, the whole of Thursday and! Friday last, considerable expert evidence being called aa to local values; and the price paid by the Education Board for a piece of land for the Kaiwarra school was the central point in the long argument of contending counsel. During the hearing of the case seats on the bench alongside Hie .Honour were occupied by Mr A. H. Miles, assessor for the claimants, and Mr Ferguson, assessor for the Railway Department. Air T. C. A. Hislop appeared for Alexander and John Campbell and Air P. S. K. Macassey, Crown Prosecutor, for the Railway Commissioner.

After hearing the evidence, TTis Honour, suggested that the assessors Should attempt to find a mutual agreement for a suitable award. The assessors eventually agreed upon an award of £1350, with which decision His Honour concurred. A total of thirty guineas fees, to be paid by respondent, was allowed to the assessors, together with counsels’ fees of £2l, the witnesses’ expenses and disbursements to be fixed by the registrar. His Honour intimated that the award dhould he drawn up and submitted to ham for signature accordingly.
