CITY COUNCIL’S POSITION. "The Wellington City Council's antecedent liability has now been definitely ascertained, and the figure forwarded to the Minister for Internal Affairs in accordance with the new legislation passed last session is £334,089. The City Council is empowered to raise a loan to cover this liability without appealing to tho ratepayers. The loan, however, mui-t have the approval of the Minister, and when this is obtained negotiations with a view to raising the money will be entered into. Most of the liabilities were incurred during the war period, 1914 to 1918.
