LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY
WELLINGTON HEAD CENTRE. AWARDS APPROVED AND ISSUED. A meeting of the Wellington Head Centre of the above society was held on Wednesday evening, Mr G. S. Hill presiding. , , It was decided that the centre s delegate on the council at Christchurch, Mr Baxter O’Neill, he instructed not to move that the headquarters of tho society ho moved to Wellington, hut if a motion he brought forward he is to vote for it. The centre also passed a hearty vote of thanks to the delegate for the very Able way lie had brought the change in ‘the council’s constitution, which would result in much greater co-epera-tion between the various head centres and the Dominion Council. The delegate was instructed to express to Mr Kennedy Bassett the centre’s appreciation of the services he has rendered to life-saving in New Zealand as chairman of the Dominion, executive council since its inception. The Island Bay Life-saving Club were thanked for their donation of a shield for inter-elub competition for the coming season. . It was decided that tho schools challenge shield competition Be postponed till next February. A sub-committee was elected, with Mr G. S. Hill as speaker, to meet the City Council in conjunction with the Rotary Club and the Swimming Centre with regard to building the salt water tepid baths in Wellington. It was pointed out that next season would be a record one in Wellington for life-saving and the centre .will conduct a large number of competitions amongst the various clubs. The London executive committee has reduced the age for the bronze medallion from 15 to 14, which should r.fiord better facilities for schools to gain tins award. AWARDS ISSUED. Three members of the Worser Bay Swimming and Life-saving; Club sat for tbe severe test of the society’s diploma, but were unsuccessful; it is the intention of the candidates, with the committee’s permission, to sit again. Messrs Cecil H. Thomas, W. Btakeney and AV. E. Lavelle, showed great promise and the examiners are satisfied that with sufficient training they should be able to qualify for the award. Mr C. H. Gallagher was appointed hon. instructor of the society.
