DETECTIVE IN TROUBLE
ACCUSED OF TAKING A BRIBE. By TelegTaph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Alay 31. Detective Edmond Ethell appeared in the City Court, on a charge that he took a bribe, a cheque for £9OOO, from George Stewart, to forgo his duty as a member of the police force of Victoria. Tho case arose from a report in America ihat war bonds for £IB,OOO had been stolen, and that the suspect was in Australia. The man reported to the police, and Ethell questioned him in respect to the missing bonds. A trap was laid, and the detectives who made the arrest state that they saw something pass between Ethell and tho man when they again met. The hearing was adjourned till Thursday.
