A GROWING DISTRICT

MANOAWATA’S WANTS. SCHOOL URGENTLY REQUIRED. Mr E. Newman, »I.P. for Manawatm, introduced a small deputation to the Minister for Education (the Hem. C. J. Parr) yesterday from the Mamgaiwata settlement. On bdbolf of the settlers, the deputation. (Mr B. Hsnas and Air VV. Croad) urged that a school should be erected in the district without delay. ' It was painted out that the district was one of' great possibilities, consisting of rich dairy lands which were rapidly being out up and closely settled. Hie nearest school, at Rangiarto, was 2) -to 3i miles away. The roods in winter were very riefe and often under water, and the majority of the children had to ride to school. The Rangioto achool, too, was already overcrowded, mid it would shortly be necessary to build a new School. In view of the future poesibtiHtaes of the district, and the fact that there were already 66 children at Mongawatn. the leputaitbon asked that a school should be erected at that place. Even now an attendance of 45 could be guaranteed. The Minister, m reply, referred to the present financial stringency, which made it very difficult to find the money for new schools; but he said that if the settlers would put in an application through the Education Board he would be glad to givs it consideration. .
