GREEKS CARRY FORTS BY *• DIRECT ASSAULT. Australian and N.Z. Association. LONDON, July 24. The “Daily Telegraph’s” correspondent ait Smyrna states that Greek sources estimate that the Kemadists lost four thousand: in killed and ten thousand in wounded during the seven days’ battle at Eskishehr, which extended over forty-three miles. The Turks had erected numerous forts on all the surrounding mountains, of which the Greeks had to carry twenty by direct assault with the bayonet. When the Kemadists retreated they took up a position thirty miles east of Eskishehr, where the railway is flanked by mountains sometimes four thousand feet in height. Here fighting is going on. The Kemalist leader is not risking the encirclement of his small army. FRANOO-TURKISH AGREEMENT. Beater’s Telegram. PARIS, July 24. A Kemalist delegate in Paris has received a communique claiming that the Kemadists have re occupied AfiunKarahissar. The “Petit Parisien” states that the Kemmliet .delegate has drafted a scheme for a Firanco-Turkish agreement which is likely to satisfy both panties. He also states that the National Assembly at Angora has postponed the ratification of the Turco-Bolshovik Treaty.
