HEAVY TRAM TRAFFIC
SATURDAY'S BIG TAKINGS. The exceptionally heavy traffic on the corporation trams on Saturday produced a very big increase in the cash takings for the day, which amounted to £1096 7s lid. The total takings do not represent the full use which was made of the can, however, for many people who journeyed to the big football match at the Athletic Park tendered concession tickets. (Although a special fast service was run to the park and many more cars than usual were on the line, the accommodation offered was quite insufficient for all who would nave desired to travel, and hundreds of people waiting: fer trams between Courtenay place ana the park were "left standing," and consequently had to walk or find other means of conveyance. The scene in Adelaide road after the match was a memorable one. A huge Jiving tide of people flooded the main thoroughfare and the fair-reaching ses of heads was most striking. It appeared as if a great cavil army were marching an the town. The tramway authorities coped with the traffic in a very efficient manner, and only one serious accident (in no way due to the fault of management or officials, it is said) was reported.
