A court-martial sentenced two privates to eight years’ penal servitude for allowing Francis Teeling to escape from the Kilmainham gaol. Francis Teeling, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Lieutenant McMahon during the Dublin murders in November last, escaped from Kilmainham gaol. One report stated that Sinn Feiners attacked the gaol and carried off Teeling. The rescue of Heeling was daringly carried out. Confederates arrived at the gaol in a motorlorry armed with an alleged warrant to transfer Teeling to another prison. The authorities were apparently completely duped.
