“TERRIBLE REGIME”
AMERICAN OCCUPATION OP HAITI. GRAVE ALLEGATIONS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. “ WASHINGTON, May 9. The Patriotic Union of Haiti has filed with the American Government a report describing the American occupation of Haiti as “The most terrible regime of military autocracy ever carried on in the name of democracy.” It is claimed tha.t more than. 9000 Huitiens died *in American prison camps from 3918 to 1920; that hundreds of additional persons,, including women, children, and invalids, were killed, mutilated, and tortured by American marines or native gendarmes officered by Americans. The report gives a list of specific charges against individual officers and marines.
