BOROUGH FINANCE
PALMERSTON NORTH’S PROBLEM DIFFICULTY WITH THE ELECTRICAI, SCHEME. (Special to “Times.”) Councillor Crabb (chairman of the electrical committee) stated, at the Palmerston North Borough Council’s meeting this week, that he wanted the ratepayers to see the awkward position the council had got into through the delay over the railway deviation. Had it not, been for the Government's delay in deciding the local railway scheme the council would have raised the money for reticulation work six months ago. The present position was that the council was committed to the extent of £65,000, of which £40,000 had already been raised. If the undertaking could not be carried any further there would be a loss of £4255 yearly for internet and sinking fund. It was pointed out that £85,000 will be required to complete the whole scheme, apart from the £40,000 already rnieeO.
Tho Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash) pointed out that the counsel did not have tho money at the present time, and that they could not, under any consideration, allow tenders for reticulation to be called just now.
