INCREASE OF £SO

HONORARIUM OF PALMERSTON NORTH’S MAYOR.

(Special to the “Times.”)

Councillor A. J. Graham, at the last meeting of the Palmerston North Borough Council, introduced the question of increasing the Mayor's honorarium from £2OO to £250 per annum. Councillor Oram also pointed out that a move should be made in the direction of securing payment for councillor’s services.

While agreeing that the honorarium was insufficient, Councillor Hodgens disagreed with the principle of members of local bodies voting their own increases in salary, contending that it should bo done by tho ratepayers at the polls. It was eventually decided unanimously to increase the Mayor’s salary to £250.
