TALAAT PASHA
ASSASSINATED IN BERLIN STREET. END OF NOTABLE TURK. Australian n*;<i N.Z (Tab’s* (Received March IG, 6.5 p.m.) BERLIN, March 15. Talaat who was formerly Turkish Minister for the Interior and one of tho leaders of tho young Turk party, was assassinated in tho street. H.is wifo was wounded. Talaat was walking on Wednesday, when a youth overtook him and tapped him on tho soulder, claiming acquaintance. He thon drew a revolver and shot Talaat in tho head. ' A second shot was aimed at and wounded tb#> lady. The onlookers seized tho aseaesin and almost lynched him before the police intervened. In broken German tho murderer said: “IVo aro both foreigners. This is nothing to do with you.” Talaat evidently feared assassination for ho frequently changed hia addresses.
