FISHING INDUSTRY
IMPROVEMENTS AT ISLAND BAY. The improvements to be effected at Island Bay for facilitating tUe landing of fish were the subject of a statement made at the meeting of the City Council last evening .by Mr R. A. Wrigh.t. Mr Wrfght said that he had received a letter from the Government intimating that, in addition to paying up to £1250 towards the cost of the improvements, it was also prepared to find cement and other materials tor the purpose of carrying out the work. Ha asked whether it was not possible to proceed forthwith with the erection of the wharf, which was an absolute noThe Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke) said that the city engineer <Mr W. H. Morton) was conferring with the Marine Department already, and the matter would be pursued with due dispatch. Mr Luke expressed pleasure at th* further offer of the Government.
