MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. VARIOUS MATTERS DEALT WITH The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held evening, the Mayor, Mr J. P. Luke. - * presiding. Authority was granted for the City Valuer to undertake each year, under the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920. the valuation of new buildings and other improvement, in the city, since the date of the general revision of the valuation roll by the Valuer-General. This will expedite the correction of the local valuation roll and enable rates to be struck earlier in the year than hitherto'. The express stand at the tramway freight office, post office square, i, to be abolished. . The abattoir committee reported that they had received a deputation from the Wellington Live Stock Butchers' Association with reference to various matters, including the advisability of providing a chilling room at the municipal abattoir. Whilst in sympathy with this request, the committee could not recommend compliance with same until a further supply of electric power was available in the city.—The council endorsed this view. The'council approved the request of the Wellington Gricket Association for telephone extension from the custodian’s residence. Basin Reserve, to the pavilion, and also for the erection of a scoring board at the south-eastern corner of the reserve, subject' to th» board being erected to the satisfaction of the City Engineer.
