CIVIC AFFAIRS

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the City Coandl was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke, M.P.), presiding. The request was received from the management of the Wellington Hostel for Returned Soldiers and Sailors for a remission of rates on their property at The Terrace. The council decided that the sanitarj services in that portion of the city whirl formerly constituted the Karori borough should be continued without payment ol additional rates. Authority was granted for the extension of the water service at" the Karori cemetery at an estimated cost of £I6OO, Various matters dealt with are reported under separate headings in to-day V "Times.”
