WATERSIDERS' MEETING

.. BALLOTING RULE ALTERED. There was a fair attendance at the apocial "stop-work"- meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union yesterday morning, commencing at 8 o'clock, in the' Harbour Beard X etore waiting-room. Mr L. Glover, president, occupied tho chair. The rule now" reads: (4) In tho event of a second ballot being necessary to fill any of the positions where only one of the candidates is required, the person polling tho lowest number of votes in tho first ballot shall drop out, also any other candidate of candidates who hae or have not polled at least 30 per cent, of the total number of votes recorded. (5) In tho event of a second ballot being necessary to fill positions where two or more are required, tho person polling the lowest number of votes shall drop out, and also any other candidate or candidates who lias or have not polled at least 25 per cent, of the total number of votes recorded. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The special" business comprised the alteration of rule ,23 governing the election of officers of the union. The percentage to be gairietd by candidates at the first ballot stipulated in tne sections of the rule concerned waa fouiid .to be too low, necessitating as many as! three ..or, oven four ballots before finality had been reached. It waa carried unanimously, that the percentage in section 4 be raised from 20 to 30, and in section 5 from 16 to 25. Tho special meeting then concluded. The ordinary general meeting was opened with tho reading of the minutes of several meeting* of the disputes committee, which were duly confirmed. The returning officer's report of the late ballots was read and adopted. A comniiltee comprising Messrs Cooley, Cousins, Voysey, Reidy, and HarridgeV"Vith' i 'the officials of tne union, was set up to go into the question of evolving a more practical soheme of conforming with the agreement regarding work on wet days. A motion supporting the New Zealand Labour party'B resolution supporting the Council of Action re the Russian Socialist Republic, was passed. The offer of the Harbour Board to build a shelter shed oil, the _ Clyde quay wharf met with appreciation. The meeting terminated at 11.30 a.m., and work on the waterfront commenced at I p.m. •
