FARMERS AND WOOL PROFITS.

Inquiry concerning the origin of a circular issued to farmers with reference to 'wool profits was made m a letter received by the Canterbury branch of the Navy League. The letter, which was from Mr D. Archibald, of gpotewood, was as follows: “Please post me a copy of the circular that wao sent out to us farmers asking us to give up our wool profits to the British Seamen’s Fund. I, like many others, signed under a misapprehension as to the position, and in the belief that nearly all would do the same. Now I find that a great many of our richest men are giving nothing. If this is carried through, it will do a great deal of harm' to all further apSeals for patriotic objects. The willing orse will then be willing no more. The secretary reported having written in reply that the circular in question had not been sent out by the league, and that he thought it had Been issued by Mi' Edward Newman, M.P. The chairman, Mr H. J. Marnner, said that the matter was too risky for the league to touch, and, accordingly, the next business was proceeded with.
